The Stop: Big Night at the Green Barn

A celebration of growing and sharing good food.

Big Night celebrates backyard gardens of the past, present, and future, and highlights the long history of growing food in Toronto. On Wednesday June 8th, we enjoyed a magnificent, four-course, family-style meal inspired by classic Italian home cooking and prepared by some of the city’s finest chefs, all in support of our food access and community-building programs….all to raise money for this great cause!

But before the main meal began, we all gathered in the green barn’s tent enjoying a variety of appetizers prepared by different restaurants from across the city…

First stop, Baker and Scone’s tri tomato gazpacho topped with cheddar scone croutons (avove)…so refreshing!

From Oretta/Capocacci, we enjoyed a mouthful of flavour…cuttlefish, smashed peas and a cube of gluten free farinata (made from chick pea flour)

The Cellar Door made this incredible bacala Mantecato e Frito with seasonal agro dolce (salt cod croquettes with seasonal house sweet and sour preserve)

Terroni made some wonderful tramezzini (which is an assortment of mini cold sandwiches)

Have you ever had basil gelato?  Well, let me tell you, when you put it on pizza alla romana with fresh tomato, it’s incredible!!
