Superbowl Snacks

If you think you know what Piggies in a Blanket are, then think again! These Superbowl inspired, chili laden piggies in a blanket are all decked out atnd ready for the big game!! Let’s goooo!!!!

Tomorrow is the big game!  And, now that you know all about my football history (if you missed it, I spilled the beans in my last post), we need to find some serious snacks (besides my big batch, game day, serve yourself chili bar).

So, take a look at this “not good for you at all” Superbowl conversation starter!!! These quasi- Piggies in a Blanket are so good (I’ve made them a few times and they always hit the spot!!).

There’s no recipe for this but what you’ll need is some cocktail wieners, a package of Pillsbury dough (or some pizza dough), some of your favourite chili (or my Big Batch Chili), some shredded cheese and accompaniments of your choice (I used salsa and guacamole, but you can use ketchup and mustard!!).

What You’ll Need for These Superbowl Piggies in a Blanket:

  • pillsbury crescent roll dough (you can also use pizza dough rolled thinly and cut into strips)
  • cocktail smokies (or mini hot dogs)
  • grated cheese of your choice (I used cheddar and asiago)
  • chili (I used my big batch chili)
  • salsa and guacamole for serving!

Open up the packages and cut the dough into smaller strips…

Roll each small hotdog with a piece of dough and place, standing up,  in a cake pan…

Remember to place a small oven-proof dish in the centre to hold that space while the Piggies in a Blanket bake.  Once you are done standing all the hotdogs up around the smaller dish, bake at 375 for about 15 minutes…

Make sure you have your chili ready and your cheese shredded…

Remove the smaller dish and place a dinner plate on top of the cake pan and invert; then invert the cake plate into a larger pan (I like my cast iron pan…it keeps the food warm longer!)

Place the chili around the edge…

Top with cheese…

And bake again until the chili is heated through and the cheese is melted… fill center with toppings of your choice (I used salsa and cold guacamole)
