Jump to RecipeI wanted to tell you all that if you hate chocolate, now is not the time to be doing any retail therapy.
Actually, you should probably just go on a vacation to, like, the Serengeti, for the next week or so.
In case you haven’t noticed, every company out there has hopped (no pun intended) on the Easter bandwagon and is now offering chocolate in every shape and size.
Want chocolate peanut butter eggs? Reece’s has you covered.
Want a giant egg-shaped Twix bar? The Mars Company has your back.
Looking for a giant chocolate Easter bunny filled with Baileys? If you find that, can you send me a message (’cause that would be epic!!).
But, seriously, now is the time to get your chocolate on because it is available EVERYWHERE and in EVERY FORM.
All of this sweetness got me thinking about a DIY version of some of those treats. I mean, Easter candy is always nice, but wouldn’t it be great to give away something that has your own special twist to it?
Aaaand you guys all know how much I love adding a personal touch to everything related to food, so that’s how my DIY Easter bark was created! I mean it’s ridiculously easy…you melt good quality chocolate and spread it in a pan. It doesn’t get easier than that. It’s actually harder to get in your car and drive to the store 😉
I am seriously telling you that you will be the favorite auntie (or uncle) in town if you bring this to Easter lunch! Got some relationships to mend? Also, nothing says “I love you” or “you are special” or “I don’t think you are that much of a jerk” more than homemade treats!!

- Mini chocolate eggs or pastel M&Ms
- Crushed cookies or graham crackers
- Freeze-dried fruit like strawberries or raspberries

How to Make DIY Chocolate Easter Bark
- Prep the Pan: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Melt the Chocolate: Use a double boiler or microwave (in 30-second intervals, stirring each time) to gently melt the chocolate until smooth.
- Spread the Chocolate: Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared pan and use a spatula to spread it out to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Decorate: Sprinkle your toppings evenly across the surface while the chocolate is still melted. Press slightly to ensure they stick.
- Chill: Place the tray in the fridge for 30–60 minutes or until the chocolate is completely set.
- Break Into Pieces: Once firm, break or cut the bark into shards. Store in an airtight container.
That’s it! You’ve got beautiful, festive Easter chocolate bark that looks like it came from a fancy chocolatier.
Substitutions, Add-Ins, and Flavor Twists
- Chocolate Options: Mix dark and white chocolate for a marbled look. Use ruby chocolate or vegan chocolate to suit dietary needs.
- Flavor Extracts: Stir in a few drops of peppermint, almond, or orange extract for a subtle twist.
- Healthy Additions: Add hemp seeds, chia seeds, or goji berries for a nutritious boost.
- Colorful Swirls: Drop spoonfuls of colored white chocolate (dyed with natural food coloring) and swirl with a toothpick.
- Themed Barks: Create different versions for different holidays — think red and green for Christmas, red and pink for Valentine’s Day, etc.

Storing, Freezing, and Make-Ahead Tips
- Storage: Keep Easter bark in an airtight container at room temperature (in a cool, dry place) for up to 2 weeks. If your kitchen is warm, store it in the fridge.
- Freezing: Chocolate bark freezes well! Place shards in a freezer-safe container, separated by parchment, and freeze for up to 3 months. Let it come to room temperature before serving to avoid condensation.
- Make-Ahead: Chocolate bark can be made several days (even weeks) in advance, making it the ultimate stress-free party treat.
To prevent your toppings from getting soggy or discolored, make sure the bark is stored away from humidity and light. If gifting, wrap pieces in wax paper before adding to treat bags or boxes.

DIY Pretty Easter Bark
Ingredients
- 2 300g family size dark chocolate bars, chopped (you can use milk chocolate for a less intense flavour)
- 1 225g bag Mini Oreo cookies
- 1 medium bag candy coated chocolate eggs
- 1 small bag bite sized caramel chocolates like Mars, Twix, Rolos
- 1/2 cup Easter quints those tiny candy sprinkles you put on sugar cookies
- 2 cups pastel coloured pink, purple, yellow, orange chocolate melts
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet with parchment; set aside.
- In a double boiler, melt chocolate until completed melted (or in a microwave safe bowl, cooking on high and stirring every 30 seconds until melted), and pour onto prepared pan, spreading almost to the edge.
- While the chocolate is still wet, start placing the toppings on; begin with the small cookies, then nestle the chopped caramel chocolate in between, then drop the candy eggs in the spaces that are empty.
- Once you are done, sprinkle the quints all over and set aside to harden.
- Meanwhile, melt the chocolate melts and scrape into a small zip-lock baggie, snip the bottom corner and use it like a piping bag to drizzle the coloured chocolate all over the top.
- Leave to harden and then either cut into squares or break into pieces and serve.
Want the chocolate itself to be crunchy? Add some chopped nuts or even rice crispie cereal to the chocolate before spreading.
You’d like some interesting crunch on the top? Add some chopped up cookies (I like Oreo’s because they keep their crunch).
Want something gooey? Add some store bought chocolate bars with caramel, that have been chopped up, to the top of the bark.
And, of course it wouldn’t be Easter bark without the mandatory Hershey eggs.
And if you want to make it extra colourful, sprinkle on some spring coloured quints from your local bulk store and then finish it off with a drizzle of pastel coloured melted chocolate.
Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or just starting out, this recipe is wonderfully forgiving. It’s also a great way to get the kids involved in the kitchen. Imagine melted chocolate swirled with pastel candies, crushed cookies, mini marshmallows, freeze-dried fruit, or even edible flowers. The possibilities are endless, and each bark slab becomes a delicious, edible work of art.
