How to Make Epic Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Holy jumpin’….this is a killer bbq sauce!

Don’t get intimidated by the long list of ingredients because you are not going to believe how easy it is to whip together.  Anyhow, most of these ingredients are kept in your pantry and, if you buy them for this recipe, I promise you will be using them in other dishes to add some spice…literally!

Honestly, just try it and put it in small mason jars to give away when you are invited to a barbecue.  You will forever be the first on the invitee list to every single outdoor event in your neighborhood!

Ingredients:

1/4 c olive oil

1 large onion, chopped

1 c ketchup

1 c honey

1 c apple cider vinegar

1/4 c Worcestershire sauce

2 tins tomato paste (156 ml each)

1 tbsp molasses

1 tsp Tabasco

3 tbsp Dijon mustard

2 tbsp chipotle in adobe (smal cans are available in the section of your grocery store where you buy taco/mexican supplies) *

1 tbsp horseradish

1/2 c hoisin sauce

1/2 soy sauce

2 tbsp chili powder

1 tbsp cumin

1 squirt liquid smoke (optional)

*  a small can of chipotle in adobe will give you about 3 times the amount you need in this recipe; so unless you are going to triple this recipe (which would be an awesome idea), just put the other 2/3 in a snack-sized Ziploc bag and freeze or another use

1.  Get all of your stuff ready…and today, that’s a lot of stuff!

2.  In a pan ,heat the oil on medium/high and add the onions; cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the onions get soft…

3.  In a  sauce pan, add the rest of the ingredients and simmer until combined (about 10 minutes); add the onions with the oil and stir to combine.  Then, either using a hand held blender or a stand up one, puree all of the ingredients.  Pour some into a jar to keep in your fridge and put the remainder into Ziploc bags and freeze or pour into clean mason jars (if you want to seal them, keep the jars in a warm oven while you make the sauce and after you have poured the remaining sauce into the warm jars and screw the lids on, you will hear a pop which means the jars have sealed and they can be kept in your pantry until needed).

4.  If there is something you don’t like in terms of ingredients, either leave it out or look through cookbooks for other bbq recipes and adjust based on other recipes you see.
