How to Make Easy Homemade Baked Pita Chips

I bet you woke up this morning and said, “man, I hope someone out there posts a really easy pita chip recipe today”.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Okay, maybe that wasn’t the first thing you thought of as you leapt out of bed but, let me tell you, you’re gonna wish that was your first thought!

I have been meaning to post this for a long while. But every time I think about it, I think “don’t be crazy…nobody needs a recipe for this”. Which, to be fair, is true. There’s no real recipe here! It’s cut, spray, sprinkle, bake – DONE!

But I’d thought I’d take the opportunity to explain a few things to y’all!

So here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Pita: I like these Israeli style pita because they are thin and get super crunchy when they’re baked. But you could also use regular pita, naan or tortillas.
  2. Fat: If you have like three minutes to make these, by all means, use a good quality cooking spray. But you can also use olive and brush it on or even some toum (which is garlic paste…if you need a good recipe, you can find it here over at my pal Cosette’s page).
  3. Spices: My absolute favourite is Tajin however, you can use a variety of chili-lime ‘copycats’ that have flooded the market recently. But, also, feel free to use any spice you like! Lemon pepper is my second fave!

This is the brand of pita I use. It’s always available at my local grocer and is often on sale for less than $1 so I will buy a few packages and have them in the freezer ready for when I need them!

Tajin is available at some grocers but I often find it at Walmart. It comes in a low salt variety as well as a jalapeno/spicy variety.

This is a brand I found as well…it’s quite good. This company is well known for it’s hot sauce but this seasoning is a good one!

And, finally, I recently found this variety (remember Lawry’s seasoning…my mom used to put it on everything back in the day!). They now have a chili lime seasoning as well! You can tell I use a lot of this stuff 😉

As I said, you can use cooking spray, but this is what the garlic paste looks like and you won’t be sorry if you make a batch of this to use here (or on about a million things in you kitchen…I LOVE IT!!!).

If you’re watching your salt, feel free to make your own spice blend by mixing chili powder, garlic powder, citric acid (for the lemon flavour) and whatever other spices tickle your fancy! You can also use a bit of nutritional yeast (pictured below) for a nutty, “parmesan-like” flavour!

  • seasoning (such as tajin or lemon pepper)
