The World’s Fastest (and Easiest) Donuts!

In a perfect world, donuts would be nutritionally equivalent to carrots.


Seriously, there is really nothing good (from a nutritionists point of view) in a donut…white sugar, white flour, shortening or butter, maybe some Nutella, or cookie butter, or dulce de leche…and a big vat of oil for deep frying.

And the oil?  Ya, totally not even olive oil.

If I put some strawberry jam in the middle, can you cut me a break?  I mean, come on…strawberries…fruit…vitamin C….come on…

Okay, so I guess we will agree that donuts can be a “once in a while” treat.  But, if you’re gonna have a treat, why not have a really good treat?  Like a warm donut stuffed with your choice of filling, hot out of the fryer and coated in cinnamon sugar?  Totally melting in your mouth.

Can you taste it?  Soft, warm, and sugary…like a giant pillowy marshmallowy bite enveloping your tongue as you go in for another bite.

And another.

And another.

Alrighty, you can wake up now.  But, this doesn’t have to be an “only in your dreams” treat. I know that you’re already thinking, “Really?  You expect me to make homemade donuts?”

Uhhhh, yes…

Cause, you can make these in, like, 6 minutes.

Please make me happy and give this a shot.  This is a total departure from my normal “from scratch” recipes…but I really want you guys in the kitchen so I figure we’ll start easy.

Trust me…you’re gonna love it!

And sorry for the extra notch you’re going to need in your belt…but it will be soooo worth it! 🙂


Yup, you guessed it (or maybe you didn’t!)…we are going to use Pillsbury biscuits!  Oh yes we are!!


Cut holes in the middle, fry ’em up…


Dip in cinnamon sugar…


And don’t forget the holes!!


Serve with some yummy preserves (or ice cream, or nutella)


Who kidding who…just rip it in half and dip it in!


Oh ya, and those holes?  Pipe some cream cheese icing in the middle and dip into some strawberry jam.

  • I can Pillsbury Biscuits
  • 1/4 c flour for your counter (to avoid sticking)
  • 1/3 c granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2-3 cups vegetable oil
  • Filling of your choice (Nutella, Cookie butter, jam, preserves, etc)
  1. Place the oil in a medium pot (it needs to be big enough to put 2-3 donuts in at the same time but not too big that the oil isn’t deep enough).
  2. In a small dish, combine the sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
  3. Heat it on high (if you have a thermometer, it should be around 375…if not, use the dough from one of the middles to test the oil).
  4. Sprinkle some flour on your counter or cutting board so the dough doesn’t stick.
  5. Open the biscuit tube and separate the biscuits
  6. Cut a hole in the middle of each biscuit (I used a cannoli tube but you can even use a sharp knife to cut a small hole out of the middle).
  7. When the oil is hot enough, place one doughnut in and wait for about 1 1/2 minutes; turn it over and cook until golden on the other side.
  8. Place on a paper towel for a minute (and put another donut in the oil); move the warm donut from the paper towel to the sugar bowl and coat with the sugar.
  9. Enjoy warm with some preserves, ice cream, etc. If you cook the donut holes (the middle), you can pipe something yummy into the middle (put some nutella into a piping bag and “poke” the tip into the hole and squeeze the nutella into the middle as you pull out).
