It’s been a hot minute since we’ve made fish here on the blog, right? So I wanted to make an easy recipe that you could all whip up (in no time at all) and get more protein/omegas into your diet. May I introduce y’all to my 10 Minute Honey Garlic Air Fryer Salmon Bites!!

I’m not sure if you guys know, but I love fish! Although I’m not pescatarian, I would eat fish over meat any day. Hence, why I have a few great fish recipes on this blog (like this Easy Glazed Salmon – which is a family favourite!!).

I love all kinds of fish but here is why I love salmon:

  • There are so many ways to prepare it – you can grill it, pan sear it, sauté it, stuff it, bake it, kebab it, cure it (check out my recipe for beet cured salmon here – so pretty!!) or even eat it raw (make sure you are getting sushi grad salmon if you are eating it raw!!).
  • It’s an incredible source of high-quality protein – a 100 gram portion has 2.5 grams of omega-3 fatty acids which your body can’t create so you need to get them in food (or supplement) form.
  • It’s low in saturated fat and great vitamins and minerals such as zinc, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and vitamin B.
  • I (personally) don’t find it fishy tasting at all!!

I mean, look at how beautiful it is??!!!

Here’s What You’ll Need for these 10 Minute Honey Garlic Air Fryer Salmon Bites:

  • salmon (obviously ;))
  • honey
  • garlic
  • soy sauce
  • hoisin sauce
  • ginger
  • salt and pepper
  • cornstarch
  • plain yogurt/paprika/hot sauce (if you’re making the optional dip)

What to Look Out For When Buying Salmon:

  • make sure you are buying salmon fillets and not salmon steaks (you won’t be able to cube a salmon steak – and I’m not a big fan of that cut anyways!!)
  • make sure you ask your fish monger (or the person at the fish counter) if the fish is fresh…I even ask for a piece from the back because the fridges are colder than the display counters.
  • look for the ‘best before’ date – fish is very perishable!
  • make sure you smell it if you can – it should smell pleasantly fishy and not be slimy (I know that’s hard to do if it’s packaged.
  • when you get home, rinse it under cold water.

How to Cook These 10 Minute Honey Garlic Air Fryer Salmon Bites in the Oven:

  • prepare them as directed in this recipe
  • preheat your oven to 400 and line a baking sheet with foil (I feel it gets crispier than parchment).
  • bake for 8 minutes or until it starts to brown

What (and How) Can You Serve These 10 Minute Honey Garlic Air Fryer Salmon Bites?

  • serve them like I did in a bowl with rice and veg
  • serve them on a skewer with other veg
  • serve them the next day – on hot toast, spread some avocado and then crumble a few of these bites on top…drizzle with the yogurt dip
  • as leftovers, warm up your rice and add the bites, breaking them up slightly, add peas and a scrambled egg – my take on chicken fried rice…but with salmon!!
  • serve them blackened like Gina does over at Skinny Taste (find her recipe here).
  • try this sweet Thai chili version by Dana over at Killing Thyme (find her recipe here)

Tips:

  • make sure you cut all the pieces into equal(ish) sizes so they all cook the same
  • don’t overcook them – better to undercook them!
  • refrigerate the leftovers and use within two days
  • if your salmon comes with skin, you can easily remove the skin by pouring hot (boiling) water over it and the skin will peel right off!!
